Palm oil statement
We share the environmental concerns raised about the deforestation in Malaysia and Indonesia to support palm oil production. As a result, we are actively seeking membership of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) a multi-stakeholder group which promotes the growth and use of sustainable palm oil products. The two main principles adopted by the Round Table are:
To respect the rights of land owners, farm workers, small holders and their families
No primary forests or high conservation value areas to be
sacrificed
for new palm oil plantations
Dairy Crest uses a variety of vegetable oils in the manufacture of our dairy spread brands and as part of this process we do use some palm oil derivatives which, unfortunately, are not all available from guaranteed sustainable sources. However, all our suppliers are members of the RSPO and we have been encouraging them to make these derivative products from sustainable palm oil. We are committed to using sustainable palm oil derivative blends whenever they become available. In addition, we are currently searching for new suppliers of sustainable palm oil derivative blends.
At the moment, our spreads packs do not state that they contain palm oil. However, we are aware of consumer interest such as yours in this subject and are therefore reviewing this position.
At Dairy Crest, we are committed to reducing any negative effect our manufacturing processes may have on the environment and are working to be more carbon conscious and climate friendly. A more sustainable business will not only improve the way we fulfill our responsibilities to society, but also support our vision of delivering better environmental solutions for the consumer as well as greater long-term shareholder value.
