Our butter and spreads business produces a range of popular brands including Clover, Utterly Butterly and Country Life. We also produce a broad range of both branded and retailer own label butters.
Our activities
Dairy Crest is one of the largest UK producers of butter and spreads.
Our butter is produced using milk sourced only from UK dairy herds.
We are committed to developing both our own market share and the total butters and spreads category by leveraging our in-depth knowledge of consumer and shopper needs into category leading insights that drive growth for both ourselves and our customers.
Our approach
Our ongoing strategic category marketing programme is supported by continuous shopper and consumer research. We have identified a number of key consumer drivers which are shared with our key retail and wholesale customers to ensure focused category development.
The retail market
The UK butters and spreads market is worth around £960million at RSP. Over 370,000 tonnes of butters and spreads are consumed every year and 99% of all households purchase the category.

We also supply a range of regional butters under the St Ivel brand including Cornish, Somerset and Welsh variants.
In addition we produce a wide range of flavoured butters, creams and sauces for both retail and food service customers.

We have manufacturing sites at Crudgington in Shropshire and Kirkby in Liverpool.
