    Kirkby was first opened by Kraft Foods in 1957 to produce cheese, salad dressing and margarine. It was purchased by Unigate in 1996 before being acquired by Dairy Crest as part of the St Ivel spreads business from Uniq plc in 2002. The brands Utterly Butterly and Vitalite are manufactured here.
