Culture

It’s not all about work - we have recently designed community and charity programmes which allow people to participate in employee-sponsored schemes which help the local community.

Culture

Our community programme is well established with some 24 active committees supporting causes local to the sites where they work. We work hard to support our charity partner and also have a staff lottery to raise extra funds ... and win some prizes!

Community Projects

Aldershot's community committee helped fund a new exhibit at the museum of the Farnborough Air Sciences Trust. The exhibit will have a plaque with "Funded by milkandmore.co.uk". They also donated to a local primary school, and were also proud to support The Source, a charity aimed at helping local young people with a café, teen parent and mentoring programmes.

People at our creamery in Kirkby were happy to support "Liverpool Sunflowers" - a cancer care group - with a donation. It was great for everyone at the factory to know that they were helping families deal with the impact caused by a loved-one being diagnosed with cancer.

Aintree staff gave funds to a local school to give the children a basic first aid course. Volunteers also helped the local hospice by stuffing lottery tickets into envelopes.

The committee at Nuneaton have really made some difference with its community budget - donating money to help with coaching at a local youth club, a choir for young people, a swimming club and a wildlife sanctuary.

The committee at our dairy near Stonehouse in Gloucestershire have also been busy with donations to a pensioners' club, an athletics club and a local football club.

Davidstow's community programme is wide and varied … people there have contributed to buying a wreath for the Poppy Appeal; donated cheese for various local events; sponsored a tractor run; and taken advertising at the local football club.

Charity Lottery

We operate a staff lottery through a private charity society, The Dairy Crest Charity Fund. This is a society lottery which is operated under license from Elmbridge Local Authority and is open to all Dairy Crest employees. Funds raised by the lottery are donated to corporate charities or community projects nominated by members of staff.

Corporate Charity

Since 2003, Dairy Crest staff have raised over £2,500,000 for the company's charity partners. In 2009 and 2010, we raised more than £950,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support which paid for 2,500 grants to help people suffering from cancer. The Macmillan partnership has now ended but we will continue to support other deserving causes, through our robust community and charity programmes.

Our Customer Direct division is pleased to be supporting British Heart Foundation and staff at milk&more have targetted raising £500,000 to help support the 2.7 million people living with heart disease in the UK.  In the coming months we will be working with British Heart Foundation to introduce volunteering and health programmes across the business in conjunction with our occupational health and CR teams.
