Dairy Crest buys milk from approximately 1,300 direct supplying dairy farmers

ADF

Our direct supplying farms must comply fully with the requirements of the Assured Dairy Farm (ADF) national dairy farm assurance scheme.

Dairy Crest is a responsible business. Developing our Vision and Values has helped us demonstrate our commitment to doing the right thing. Corporate responsibility is integrated within our day to day practices and increasingly affects the way we do business.

As the UK's leading dairy company, processing and selling fresh milk dairy products, we have a duty to ensure Dairy Crest is a safe, healthy place to work and that we look after the communities where we are based as well as the wider environment. Corporate responsibility is an integral part of our business strategy.

We are very aware that today's consumer is well informed, with a keen desire to know where food comes from, how nutritional it is and whether or not its packaging is made from a sustainable source.

No business can work in isolation and for us to fulfil our objectives we need to work alongside, and build strong relationships with, our suppliers, customers, consumers and other stakeholders.

You can find out more about our corporate responsibility programme by reading our CR Report - see link above.

Charity Partnership

Our corporate charity partner is decided by a committee representing the Dairy Crest staff, who are the principle fund-raisers. The partnership normally runs for a minimum of two years until the end of our financial year on March 31st.  The next review of the partnership will take place in 2013.

More information about our charitable support can be found on the Community page.

We care about the local communities where we work and do our best to support them. Our community programme supports local good causes and makes a positive and direct contribution to the communities where Dairy Crest people live and work. Monies from this programme help fund initiatives to improve health, education and environment in these areas.

Community Projects

Aldershot's community committee helped fund a new exhibit at the museum of the Farnborough Air Sciences Trust. The exhibit will have a plaque with "Funded by milkandmore.co.uk". They also donated to a local primary school, and were proud to support The Source, a charity aimed at helping local young people by providing teen parent and mentoring programmes.

People at our creamery in Kirkby are happy to support "Liverpool Sunflowers" - a cancer care group - with a donation. It was great for everyone at the factory to know that they were helping families deal with the impact caused by a loved-one being diagnosed with cancer.

Aintree staff gave funds to a local school to give the children a basic first aid course. Volunteers also helped the local hospice by stuffing lottery tickets into envelopes.

The committee at Nuneaton has really made some difference with its community budget - donating money to help with coaching at a local youth club, a choir for young people, a swimming club and a wildlife sanctuary.

The committee at our dairy near Stonehouse in Gloucestershire has also been busy with donations to a pensioners' club, an athletics club and a local football club.

Davidstow's community programme is active for the local community… so far staff there have raised £15,000 for the Precious Lives appeal run by Children's Hospice South West.  The funds will go towards completing the Little Harbour, a hospice due to open soon, at a cost of £5m.

Charity Lottery

We operate a staff lottery through a private charity society, The Dairy Crest Charity Fund. This is a society lottery which is operated under license from Elmbridge Local Authority and is open to all Dairy Crest employees. Funds raised by the lottery are donated to corporate charities or community projects nominated by members of staff.

Corporate Charities

Since 2003, Dairy Crest staff have raised over £2,500,000 for the company's charity partners.

In 2009 and 2010, we raised more than £950,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support which paid for 2,500 grants to help people suffering from cancer. The Macmillan partnership has now ended but we will continue to support other deserving causes, through our robust community and charity programmes.

Our Customer Direct division is pleased to be supporting British Heart Foundation and staff at milk&more have targetted raising £500,000 to help support the 2.7 million people living with heart disease in the UK.

We aim to reduce the effect of our activities on the environment by taking steps to be more energy efficient, carbon conscious and climate friendly.

We are committed to moving the business towards greater sustainability across the economic, social and environmental dimensions of Dairy Crest's activities. A more sustainable business will not only improve the way we fulfill our responsibilities to society, but also support our vision of delivering better and healthy consumer solutions and greater long-term shareholder value.

We want to earn the right to consumers’ loyalty by providing healthy, enjoyable and convenient products.

Central to this is our continuing commitment to launching products with reduced fat levels and providing consumers with greater choice.

We also work with our sites to improve the environmental status of our products, without compromising on choice or quality.

Another area we focus on is working with key stakeholders, including government bodies, to play our part in creating a healthier Britain.
